New Year, New You?

Each year when the clock strikes 12 on 31st of December, people welcome a new year with open arms and heart. Some people make new resolutions; some new promises while some new targets. But, overall we all feel that it is a new start.
The question is…is it really a new year, yes; the date changes, we throw our old calendars and replace them with new ones. But what makes us believe that it is a new year?
New Year symbolizes new start, a beginning and new chances. We as a human always strive to do our best in whatever we do; we dedicate ourselves to our goals, our aspirations and/or our relationships. But at times we feel that our complete devotion is also not enough. We may fall in the trap of believing that we may be good for one thing, but; not for another. For e.g.: we may have achieved our best in our careers, but are emotionally drained due to lack of nurturing our relationships. So, when we get another chance to rewrite the wrongs, we take it and promise ourselves to improve.
Not everyone gets a second chance; people say. But we all get a new chance every New Year. There are times we cannot undo the wrongs of our past or cannot rewrite the old pages of our lives, but; we can always, start again and that is what New Year reminds.
So, with the coming of 2017, don’t make big resolutions, instead; make small goals like:
  • ·       Call a long lost friend
  • ·       Have a get together with family
  • ·       Go to office early
  • ·       Talk to a new colleague
  • ·       Appreciate yourself every morning
  • ·       Make a daily to do list
  • ·       Forgive and forget

Each day, try to do things you were unable to do yesterday, take a new route, make a new friend, smile more…anything just make it a new day each day. Don’t forget to appreciate your own efforts and reward yourself for even the smallest achievement; remember; no goal is small because you have put in efforts for it.
Remember we all are given a new chance to do a new thing or to improve upon the old ones. Don’t waste any moment to feel that happiness and start afresh.
Just as we don’t use the old calendar in a New Year...drop your old baggage (your past) too when you enter the New Year.
Let this 2017 be not just another year, but a chance to be a NEW YOU.
